Research opportunities

Postdoctoral Fellowships

NAMRA will fund up to two Postdoctoral Fellowships for up to three years including up to $20,000 pa for operational support.


  1. Applicants must be no more than 5 years out from completion of their PhD;
  2. The research project must be in one of the identified NAMRA research themes (with a preference this year for Marine and Coastal Livelihoods and Governance, or Ocean Dynamics);
  3. The project must include collaboration with at least two, but preferably three, of the NAMRA partners.


  1. A statement of the significance of the proposed research project in the context of the NAMRA Themes;
  2. A brief (max. three page) outline of the proposed project;
  3. Collaboration arrangements, noting the requirement to have collaborators from at least two of the NAMRA partner organisations;
  4. Budget required for the project;
  5. Curriculum Vitae

2014 PhD Top Up Scholarships

NAMRA will fund up to two PhD top-up scholarships at the rate of $15,000 pa stipend and $15,000 pa operational, for up to three years.


  1. Students must enrol or be enrolled in the Joint CDU-ANU PhD degree with supervisors from at least three of the partner organisations;
  2. Research project must be aligned with one of the four Research Themes. 
    There may be further opportunities for scholarship funding under the Collaborative Research Networks program – Northern Research Futures.


  1. Interested students are encouraged to contact potential supervisors immediately to meet the CDU and/or ANU scholarship application deadlines;
  2. Applicants must identify whether they are applying for a NAMRA Top-Up Scholarship when applying for a CDU or ANU APA and/or University Scholarship. A brief project outline is expected (max. two pages)
